Week 29

Jonathan- 19.6 pounds
David- 18.1 pounds

David is gaining ground on Jonathan.  He is a much better eater so that helps. :)  The twins once again have a stupid cold.  I am really starting to get sick of them being sick.  I feel like every time they get healthy and life gets into a good routine, someone gets sick and then we all get sick.  I'm hoping that now that we can be outside a lot the fresh air will kill all these stupid cold bugs. :)  Poor Steve got this cold too (actually all of us ended up with it); I don't know how he preached Sunday night, he barely had a voice after the morning service and catechism so he told me he just couldn't talk to me in the afternoon so he'd have a voice at night. :).  Not much new this week.  The boys still aren't sleeping the greatest but we're getting by.  One exciting thing, they are finally on the same formula and they can handle the Costco brand which means our formula bill is cut in half!!!  Exciting day. :)  I've also started to try a sippy cup with the boys.  Micah never liked a sippy cup, we finally had to resort to cups with straws.  But I thought I'd try with the twins.  They actually are getting some water out of them.  I just give it to them after they have cereal.  I figure I like to have something to drink after eating, so maybe they'd like a drink of water. :)  So that's good, plus they keep them entertained while we eat dinner.
We have a flower bed in our back yard.  The first couple of years we lived here I planted flowers which were pretty.  But they re-did our retaining wall next to the flower bed and they made it a lot higher so you can't really see the flowers except from our patio window so I decided it might be a fun project for Micah and I to plant a little garden there instead.  So the other day we started off by cleaning out the flowerbed.
The flowerbed.  We had already gotten all the leaves out at this point

Micah is a very good digger

He's pretty good with a rake too

The twins watching us work

All cleaned out and soil in

Our first plants are in- strawberries!

Micah is also very good at watering the plants.
Yesterday we went and pick up some more seeds to plant.  Even if it's a flop seeds are cheap and I'm sure we'll have lots of fun with it this summer

Fun Food Friday- Broccoli Salad

Spring is finally upon us (although the last couple of days have felt more like summer than spring).  When I think of food during spring and summer I think of grilling and salads.  So I thought for this week's Fun Food Friday I'd do a broccoli salad.  Broccoli salad is great because it can be so versatile.  Instead of grapes you can use raisins (unless your husband is like mine and refuses to eat anything with "stinky raisins" as he calls then) or Craisins are good in it too.  I use cashews because that's my favorite nut to put in salads, but you can use almonds or sunflower seeds or whatever kind of nut you what.  It's a pretty but more importantly yummy side dish to anything off the grill.

Ingredients: Broccoli, Bacon, Grapes, Onion, Cashews, Mayonnaise, White Vinegar, Sugar

You need 1/2 pound of cooked bacon.  I'm lazy and don't like to cook raw bacon and deal with the mess, so I buy pre-cooked bacon. :)  The first step is to cook the bacon, whatever kind of bacon you use.

Cut up 2 heads of broccoli...

and place in a bowl

Cut up a red onion, I just used half the onion and it was plenty...

And add to the broccoli

Rinse some grapes...

and cut in half...

And add to the bowl

Crumble up the bacon and add to the bowl.

and finally, add some cashews

For the dressing combine 1 cup mayonnaise...

1/2 cup of sugar...

and 2 Tablespoons of white vinegar...

And stir (carefully so the vinegar doesn't fly out of the bowl) until combined and smooth

Pour the dressing over the salad...

And stir until everything is mixed and covered with dressing

Chill in the refrigerator of at least an hour.  I like to originally just pour about 2/3 of the dressing and then right before serving add the rest of it.

Such a pretty salad.  But more importantly, a very yummy salad. :)

Broccoli Salad
2 heads of fresh broccoli
1/2 a red onion, diced
1/2 pound of bacon, cooked and crumbled
3/4 cup grapes, halved
3/4 cup cashews
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup white sugar
2 Tablespoons white vinegar

Cut the broccoli into bite-size pieces.  To a bowl add the broccoli, onion, bacon, grapes and cashews. For dressing mix the mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar together until smooth.  Stir into the salad and let chill for at least 1 hour.

Week 28

Jonathan (right)- 19.4 pounds
David (left)- 17.8 pounds

This past week we have spent a lot of time enjoying the nice weather outside.  We finally convinced Micah it was time for shorts and short sleeves. :)  For some reason he wanted to keep wearing pants and long sleeves even though he would wake up from his naps sweaty, silly boy.  Sickness has once again hit our house.  Jonathan woke up from his nap on Sunday with a 104.2 temperature.  I called the doctor but they don't want to see them until they have had a fever for 3 days.  He still had a temperature this morning so I took him in.  The doctor says he looks great. :)  So they think it's just a virus that comes as a fever with no other symptoms.  Hopefully it goes away in a few days, I miss my happy go lucky little guy.  And hopefully his brothers don't get it too.  David is finally sleeping well again at night and naps have been a lot better.  I've been trying to shorten their morning nap so their afternoon nap goes better and it seems to be working (except today of course, they are both awake right now when they should be sleeping).

Our local library has a playground next to it so last night while Steve was out doing family visiting we took a walk to the playground so Micah could go down the slide.  He is a big fan of slides.

The twins found the playground really exciting too. :)

Micah finally got to get out all his birthday presents.  He got a golf tee from his uncle and aunt.  Notice how good he is at keeping his head down :)

And swing...

Today is a very exciting day in our family.  Our local ice cream shop opened today.  During the summer we go there at least once a week, usually twice.  And for opening day they were giving out free soft serve ice cream cones from 11-5 so we headed over there before lunch to get our cones.

How we get there.

Micah prefers to have the ice cream in a cup and eat the cone by itself.  He ate the entire thing all by himself.  I don't think he will be satisfied with sharing with mommy this summer

The twins were bummed they didn't get any :)  Here's to another ice cream season!!!
