Week 17

Jonathan (right)- 16.5 pounds
David (left)- 14.1 pounds

We have had another great week.  The boys continue to sleep well at night and nap well, although occasionally Jonathan wakes up from his nap needing some orajel or Tylenol because his gums hurt from teething.  He seems to be more effected by it than David.  Jonathan is now wearing mostly 3/6 month or 6 month clothes, David is still in 3 month.  We got out the ExerSaucer this week and both boys are loving it:

Both boys are getting flat heads on the back of their head so we're trying to have them off their back more often.  They're not the biggest fan of tummy time

So we're glad they have another option :).  So our days consist of feeding, changing, sleeping, and then lots of fun playing either on the floor on a blanket or their playmats, in their bumbo, in the exersaucer, on the couch, lots of times with Micah helping out.  :)

Micah really gets into his story :) Jonathan looks a little scared but really he loved it :)

Playing on the couch with his brothers or "Bobbies" as he calls them

Helping feed Jonathan after helping Mommy give the twins their baths (hence the no shirt :))

We had a first for us this week- the twins first trip to our local grocery store.  We were quite a sight.  Thankfully I didn't need too many items because there wasn't a lot of room left in the cart once their car seats were in. :)
This week we look forward to the boys turning 4 month and going in for their 4 month check-up.  Fun times over here with all my boys! :)

Fun Food Friday- Grandma's Cheese Dip & Steak Salad

I decided to do a food blog about the other food we had at our Super Bowl party.  So it's a double food day today.

Grandma's Cheese Dip
The first one is my Grandma Verhoeven's Cheese Dip.  We used to have this at her house on Sundays before lunch and you always wanted to make sure you got there first so it wasn't gone before you had a chance to get some. :)  It's super easy but super yummy!

Ingredients: 1 pound browned Ground Beef (I added some onions to it when I cooked it), 1 pound Velveeta Cheese, 1 jar of Salsa, 1 pkg Taco Seasoning (or 1/4 cup)

I buy the big block of Velveeta cheese because it's only $1 more than the smaller block and then I have enough for more dip later on.  So if you buy the bigger block, cut the cheese in half.

Cut that half into 8 pieces

Put half the cheese into a CrockPot

Then add half the ground beef...

Half the taco seasoning...

And half the salsa (I like to use Medium salsa because it gives the dip a little kick)

Then repeat the layers- cheese...

Ground beef...

Taco seasoning

Salsa

Put the lid on and cook on low for about 3 hours or high for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

It will end up looking like this.

Steak Salad
One time when I was visiting my family in California my mom, sister and I were coming home from my sister's wedding shower up North and stopped at this restaurant called StoneFire Grill.  We shared this salad that was absolutely amazing.  After I was back in Michigan I wanted that salad again but there isn't a StoneFire Grill out here, so I went on their website and found out what was in the salad and recreated it.  So here you have it!:

Ingredients: Salad kit (the recipe calls for lettuce, carrots & cabbage so I cheated and bought a kit with those in it), extra lettuce, Steak (I used pre-cooked steak strips from Costco, but I've also just bought a steak and grilled it up before), Colby Jack Cheese, Cilantro, Black Beans, Corn, Chips, Mango Salsa (or you can use ranch)

Step one is hard, pour the bag of lettuce in a bowl. :)  I added some more lettuce to make it go further

Chop up some cilantro and add to bowl

Drain a can of black beans and add to bowl

Add some cheese to the bowl.  These steps can be done ahead of time.

Chop up the steak

Right before serving heat some olive oil in a skillet

Grill the corn and steak

Add to the bowl

Add some crushed tortilla chips and mix it all up.  I like to put Mango Salsa on my salad, it's amazing.  I usually make it, but I discovered this Mango Peach Salsa at Costco that is so good, so I just went with that.  You can also use Ranch if you don't want salsa.

The two dishes together, yum!
Time to go cheer on the Ravens!!! :)

Thought you might like to see Micah when he FINALLY got to eat his cake pop. :)

Week 16

Jonathan (right)- 16.1 pounds
David (left)- 13.7 pounds

David is trying to close the gap between him and Jonathan. :)  Both boys are doing great!  They have now gone over a week of sleeping through the night every night!  They are definitely better sleepers than Micah was.  With Micah, I knew if he didn't eat a certain number of ounces in a day he wouldn't make it through the night.  Jonathan never has a problem finishing all his bottles but David doesn't always, but even if he doesn't, he still sleeps through the night, so that's great!  They usually go down around 10:30 and the last couple of nights they have been waking up a little after 8, otherwise it's been between 7 and 7:30!  Of course, now that we have them consistently sleeping through the night, they have decide it's time to start teething.  Yeah, the other night Steve was overnight at a pastor's retreat so a lady from church came over to help me until they all went to bed.  Both David and Jonathan were drooling like crazy.  She asked me if that was normal at this age and I really didn't think it was.  They also had started chewing on their hands all the time.  I thought "No, they can't be teething already, they're not ever 4 months old and they were born 3 weeks early, but I guess I'll check."  Sure enough, both have 3 teeth trying to come in, all on the top and unfortunately, two of them are the eye teeth. :)  Crazy boys!  They have been a little more fussy than usual, so out came the good old tube of Baby Orajel.  Micah had a hard time teething.  At his 4 month appointment the doctor could see a tooth coming in on the bottom and that tooth did not break through till he was 8 months old!  Hopefully the twins don't take that long to teeth, only time will tell.  Otherwise both boys are doing great and bringing much joy and smiles to this household!
Both boys have taken a liking to chewing on their hands :)
